Say Yes To Giving Back!

Wide World OF SOCIAL ENTERPRISE
FOR FUTURE ISSUES WE WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM OUR MEMBERS AND READERS ABOUT UNIQUE OR CREATIVE SOCIAL ENTERPRISES

It could be a program or a company in your town or city that is such a great and innovative idea that our readers might consider applying it to their community. It could be a program that meets a specific need in a new and creative way. It can be anything interesting or informative about social enterprise. We will start this off in this issue by telling you about TEN THOUSAND VILLAGES.

This company started in 1946 as an effort to provide opportunities for artisans in developing countries, to empower them to improve their lives and that of their families. It has meant food, shelter, and education. It has meant using sustainable natural resources to craft items that are fairly traded.
Ten Thousand Villages is one of the world's largest fair trade organizations. It sells artisan products through its network of 390 retail outlets, conducts more than 280 community festivals , and has a growing e-commerce website.

A visit to their website will tell you their story of providing shopping with meaning and purpose for more than 65 years. Their combined sales from the U.S. and Canada in 2012 were $42m.
They are growing at a strong pace and with social responsibility being such a huge trend their future looks to be impressive. A visit to one of their stores is a real treat. There may be one near you.
